Garage Door Wind Resistance

Garage Door Wind Resistance

We imagine most of you have found yourselves walking into the wind before. You’ve maybe even tried to stand in place while the wind blows. Think about how you exert strength to withstand the force. How is it that more things aren’t blowing away when the mighty gusts hit? Luckily most of our major structures are built to stand strong and withstand the elements, including garage doors. This week we have put together a summary of what you need to know about garage door wind resistance.

What Can Happen

First of all, imagine if you left your garage door completely open during strong winds. What would happen to all your stuff? You’d probably find most of it down the street. The structure of your home may not fair the greatest, either. The same results could ensue if your door isn’t built to stand up to the winds.

Even if the door is closed and seemingly secured, storm strength gusts could knock your door out for the count. If the winds find their way in, prepare for structures and goods to be damaged. What’s the worst that could happen?  Mighty strong winds could even rip a heavy garage door out of its tracks. Picture that heavy piece of hardware flying and knocking around in several places it was never meant to be.

Garage Door Options

If you’re with us so far, let us introduce you to wind-rated garage doors at Overhead Door of Western Kentucky™. These doors come in a few different options including the Thermacore® models, Courtyard series, and Traditional Steel doors with style. We even build custom garage doors, so you can have stronger doors that come with style.

Bracing Your Door

When really strong winds are in the forecast, plan to brace your door a bit more. If you pick up a bracing kit, you can install it at home yourself. Just be sure to follow the directions step-by-step! This gives you the option of securing a few latches to really keep the doors intact on your garages and sheds. A garage door is an investment that serves as an entryway and a stronghold, so why not make it the best it can be.

We want you to have a door you trust, so call us at Overhead Door of Western Kentucky™ if you have any questions or want to know more about garage door wind resistance.
